sbcltr recommends the music you should be listening to right now

As we ease into the new year, we are looking at taking the best from the past and moving on into the new. It is no surprise then, that our first playlist of 2018 features two artists who have just re-released their work from last year. Then there is also the much awaited album by Grey Shack, we’ve heard it’s been in the work for over 5 years, but the end result is well worth the wait. A fresh new debut—Barbie  Rajput—is on the list too, so is some folk electro and psy.

Put your headphones on and give it a listen. Tune In. Tune Out.

Alchemy, Grey Shack
The second full length album by the Chennai based band is everything that you expect a solid rock album to be. Full of good riffs, snarling vocals that have the capacity to blend into harmonies, tight drums, this one is huge for anyone who loves rock.

I Do it For the Culture, TRODD
Mumbai based artist Tanmay Rathod aka Trodd, is fast becoming a fixture on our everyday playlists, thanks to his refreshingly weird take on electronic music. Check out his latest track, which takes you into the dark side with its bass and squelching loops—all set against the background of bells and ticking, giving you an eerie sense of how quickly is time passing.

Sweet Spot, Barbie Rajput
There is something raw and vulnerable about this 22-year-old singer that makes her stand out. It is this side that producer Aadi Arora taps into in  Sweet Spot—an emotional  four track EP. Listen to it if you’re a fan of slow, sweet music.

Auto Correct, Aditi Ramesh
If there was one break out star from 2017, it was Aditi Ramesh. Not only did the corporate lawyer turned musician wow crowds with singles from her debut EP, but she also followed that up with interviews and live shows throughout the year. With her powerful voice and her artistic ability to explore different genres, Ramesh’s debut has been what dreams are made of. Taking cue from her success, Ramesh has re-released her EP, Autocorrect recently and it would be criminal to give it a miss.

Stories From a Bottle, Bjorn Surrao
Singer, songwriter and music producer, Bjorn Surrao aka Ben Surrao’s album Stories from a Bottle, is a trilingual album which was written, composed and recorded by Surrao himself. The laidback album is easy to listen to and moves seamlessly through genres to “tell tales behind the life of the songwriter and his journey, as narrated by a bottle.”

Candyland, Komorebi
If you haven’t heard of Komorebi, now would be a good time to start. The stage name of singer, keyboardist, producer Tarana Marwah who’s debut album Soliloquy released last year to critical acclaim and featured artists such as Warren Mendonsa, Sohrab Nicholson and Mohini Dey. Komorebi, which translates as ‘sunlight that filters through tree leaves,’ recently released the official video of the song Candyland, from her debut album. Check it out below.
