Hookup-rules of sex on college campus

Read Time: < 1 minute

Hidden Brain is hosted by Shankar Vedantam for NPR. The podcast aims to help curious people understand the world—and themselves.

Using science and storytelling, Hidden Brain’s host Shankar Vedantam reveals the unconscious patterns that drive human behavior, the biases that shape our choices, and the triggers that direct the course of our relationships. In this particular episode he discusses with Lisa Wade, a sociologist at Occidental College, about her new book American Hookup: The New Culture of Sex on Campus. In her book she says that college students aren’t actually having more sex than their parents did a generation ago, but something has change though: In today’s hookup culture, developing an emotional attachment to a casual sex partner is one of the biggest breaches of social norms.
